AT&T to Boost Wireless Device Business Applications

According to this wireless business app report on Dallas Business Journal, AT&T is growing its efforts to build and sell business applications for wireless devices. Currently the company sells apps to 14 industries — such as manufacturing, financial services and construction — as well as software that goes across industries for uses like managing fleets of trucks.


“In the world of smartphones, AT&T does not want to be known as a provider of ‘dumb pipes.' So to generate revenue, create customer loyalty and reduce client turnover, AT&T is growing its efforts to build and sell business applications for wireless devices.

“‘Dumb pipes' refer to data links that move information from one point to another without adding value. To go beyond that, the Dallas company has built a portfolio of hundreds of software products for wireless devices that help with everything from taking dictation and creating electronic forms to synchronizing sales-force automation technology with smartphones. The company sells apps to 14 industries — such as manufacturing, financial services and construction — as well as software that goes across industries for uses like managing fleets of trucks.”
