Microsoft this week released the latest update to its Dynamics AX enterprise resource planning (ERP) package to general availability worldwide, on schedule.

Dynamics AX 2012 is shipping in 25 countries and 23 different languages, according to a Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) statement.

Among the features in the updated version, which has been in beta test since April, are new built-in capabilities to support multiple industries and geographic regions.

Additionally, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 adds several new core ERP features.

These include new supplier relationship management and case management capabilities, a new constraint-based product configurator, and public-fund accounting, as well as support for project quotation and budget control for service businesses.

Meanwhile, AX 2012 also provides improved support for multi-entity capabilities, along with embedded business intelligence and reporting.

As customers transition to cloud computing models, the update also provides direct access to Windows Azure public cloud services such as Rapid Start, Site, Payment and Commerce services.

“Companies can immediately realize the benefits of public cloud services from within their private cloud or on-premises deployment,” Microsoft's statement said.

The company also announced a new customer win for the product – the City of Redmond, Wash., where Microsoft has its headquarters. Redmond, the company said, switched to Dynamics AX 2012 from its pre-existing vendor, JD Edwards.

“[Redmond] city employees are now provided with transparent, relevant and rich information so that they can provide innovative services to their citizens,” according to Microsoft's statement.

As part of its launch activities, Microsoft is also offering a 50 percent discount for customers running Lawson S3 or M3 ERP deployments who move to Dynamics AX 2012 between now and June 22, 2012. A related offer will reimburse qualifying partners for every Lawson-certified consultant that gets an AX 2012 certification in the same time period.
